ProMusica to play summer concerts again at Franklin Park Conservatory

“Late last summer, when nearly all Columbus performing-arts groups were idle, the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra was getting ready to tune up.

Following a months-long absence from performing, last August the orchestra kicked off “SummerFEST,” a series of shows held throughout central Ohio: As many as 15 musicians performed in venues that included Headley Park in Gahanna, Coffman Park Amphitheater in Dublin and the event space The Fives.

“Last year was intense,” says CEO Janet Chen. “We had seven concerts over four venues.”

For its outdoor summer concerts this coming week, the orchestra will travel less but make almost as much music.

The four-concert “SummerFEST 2021” will kick off with free performances Wednesday and Thursday at the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens — the orchestra’s longtime home for performing in the summer.

“We’re just happy to be back at the conservatory,” Chen says. “I think they’re happy to have us back.”

Additional concerts will take place Saturday and next Sunday at Coffman Park in Dublin — one of the sites the orchestra discovered during last year’s SummerFEST.”
