“While most teens were thinking about driver’s licenses, prom night and graduation, Leslie Odom Jr.’s head was filled with Broadway dreams.
Except it wasn’t just an idle fantasy.
With the fearlessness that often comes with youth, 17-year-old Odom threw caution to the wind and auditioned for “Rent.”
Looking back, the veteran performer said his lack of trepidation came from his knowledge of the material, tinged with an iota of innocence.
“Preparation will make you fearless. I didn’t know I should be afraid. I knew the show and I knew it well,” Odom told The Dispatch ahead of his two nearly sold-out shows this week at the Southern Theatre.”
