Kirstin Greenlaw has maintained an active performing career for over four decades in the United States, Europe, and Asia. A resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kirstin comes from a family of vocal musicians and started touring the world at a young age, singing in a renowned children’s chorus.
She has been a member of the Dayton Philharmonic since 1998, serving as both acting concertmaster and currently as principal second violin. She also serves as principal second violin of the Peninsula Music Festival in Door County, Wisconsin.
As a chamber musician, Ms. Greenlaw was a grand prize winner of the prestigious Carmel Chamber Music competition and has performed with the Duveneck String Quartet, the Trillium String Quartet, and the Dayton Philharmonic Principals Quartet.
As a teacher, she has served on the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, taught at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music as a guest of Marilyn McDonald, and was on the faculty of the Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca, Italy.
Ms. Greenlaw is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy, studied at Vienna’s Hochschule für musik und darstellende kunst, and has degrees in violin performance from DePauw University and The Florida State University, where she studied modern and Baroque violin with Karen Clarke. Other influential teachers include Donald Weilerstein, Eliot Chapo, and Frank Kowalsky.
When not playing her 1794 Gagliano violin, Kirstin is a freelance travel writer and restaurant reviewer, as well as a passionate cook and baker.
