In addition to his role as Principal Trumpet of ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, Justin is also Acting Principal Trumpet of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra; Principal Trumpet of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra; Second Trumpet of the Erie Philharmonic; and a member of the Grand Teton Music Festival in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
An active performer, Justin routinely performs with groups such as the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Chicago’s Music of the Baroque, and the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He can be heard with the Buffalo Philharmonic in their GRAMMY nominated recording of Kodály’s Háry János Suite on the Naxos label.
As an educator, Justin is professor of trumpet at Youngstown State University where he oversees not only his studio of graduate and undergraduate students, but also teaches classes aimed at expanding the reach of music education to non-majors as well. Before his time at YSU, he previously served as an adjunct professor at Chatham University in Pittsburgh.
Justin received his B.M. from the New England Conservatory, and a M.M. from Carnegie Mellon University. His former teachers include Thomas Rolfs, Micah Wilkinson, and Neal Berntsen. He is a native of Orchard Park, New York and currently splits his time between Columbus and Pittsburgh with his wife, violinist Jorie Butler-Geyer.
